DBWA is seeking members who are keen to participate in the ongoing development and growth of dragon boating in WA. This is an opportunity to contribute to initiatives at the State level while supporting club members and positively influence the sport at a National level through liaison with the Australian Dragon Boat Federation (AusDBF). Regional members are encouraged to apply to provide a first-hand perspective on regional issues. Emails and telephone hook-ups are available for regional members — travel to Perth for meeting is not required.
The time commitment for a board position varies, depending on the role and current projects. The DBWA Board meets once a month, with meetings running for approximately 1.5 hours. Meetings are focussed and outcome-driven, and between meetings most DBWA discussion is conducted via email. Director positions have responsibility in key areas and workload varies depending on the time of year (i.e. busier during the regatta season and during Championship, with a minimal workload during winter). General Board members work on various projects depending on their skills and interests, and like the Directors they are fully involved in decision-making processes. The DBWA Board members work together exceptionally well within a supportive team atmosphere, where workload is shared and differing views and opinions valued and considered. All interested financial members are encourged to nominate for available position(s) on the DBWA Board and be a part of the growth and development of dragon boating in our State.
